When will the pros outweigh the cons in Tennessee?

The Tennessee Titans fell to 0-3 on Sunday.

Division rivals Indianapolis Colts came to our house on Sunday and honestly, I am not even sure we were home.

An embarrassing 41-20 loss has many fans questioning the efficacy of head coach Brian Callahan, with many fans saying he is undoubtedly the worst coach in Tennessee Titans history. Yes, even worse than Bill Peterson or Ken Whisenhunt.

After 20 games, Callahan is sitting at 3-17 yet he was somehow a better option than Mike Vrabel. Hi, front office? Yes, please explain that one to me.

If things do not improve, there is no doubt in my mind that yet another coach will have had a short tenure in Tennessee.

Strange decisions

Cam Ward started his night in very poor style with a Pick-Six, giving Indianapolis the lead with under a minute of play time. This is on top of declining to defer after winning the toss.

You heard me correctly, declining to defer – a decision that I am sure was not his.

According to ESPN, since the coin toss rule was changed in 2008, teams will choose to defer and thus receive the ball to start the second half 92% of the time.

I do think he is improving though. His throws are becoming more accurate – for the most part – although he should definitely be avoiding Calvin Ridley right now. That man could not catch a cold on a soaking wet day in winter, let alone anything else.

And honestly, for what he is being paid, he needs to turn it around rapidly or I have no doubt that he will be out of a job before the season is done.

Non-existent run game

Unfortunately, that is not all. Our run game is horrific and clearly needs work. Instead of racking up yardage, we get penalties, which often times erase any positive work we make on the field.

Although this week, Tony Pollard managed to not only flip Colts linebacker Zaire Franklin like a pancake on Shrove Tuesday, but also run the ball in for a touchdown on the following play.

Maybe Pollard can teach our defense a thing or two after Jonathan Taylor managed to slip through the fingers of at least four defenders like a greased-up little piglet at a barn raising or something.

Chimere Dike had another good game. He is currently leading the NFL in punt return averages. A punt being something we were able to force the Colts to do for their first time this season.

Elic Ayomanor also had another good week with a touchdown for the second game in a row, this time for eight yards from Cam Ward. Perhaps not as beautiful as the one last week but still just as vital when we need every point we could get if we had any hope of making a dent in the lead the Colts had managed to gain on us.

Unfortunately, it was a case of too little too late. While I would love to say we really need to fix these issues before next week when we face another division rival, this time in the Houston Texans, it feels a bit like beating a dead horse at this point.

So maybe fans should just hope that we actually turn up instead.
