Top five quarterbacks in the 2025 NFL Draft

Let’s start with the QBs!

The quarterback class might not be getting the hype that it always does but there are still some great options available.

Here we go through the top five quarterbacks that are going in the draft and where we think they are likely to go.

#1. Cam Ward – Miami – 6’2″, 219lbs

To me, Cam Ward is easily the QB1 in this class and it would be surprising if he did not go with the number one pick to the Tennessee Titans.

Ward posses a great arm and the ability to prolong plays. He is a great runner and scrambler and has the skills to throw on the run. On top of that he has an unnerving confidence that does not budge.

He does need time to develop his technique in general and constantly pushes crossbody throws which can be read. Also, he has ball security issues, especially on the run which showed up last season when he had eight fumbles.

Ward has the potential to become a starter in the NFL for many years to come. He also has the potential to be started too early and it all to come to soon for him.

A comparison for him would be Jordan Love as he has the same gunslinger type traits. However, Love had the time to sit and develop with the Packers. I do not think Ward will have the same amount of time with the Titans.

#2. Shedeur Sanders – Colorado – 6’2″, 212lbs

Shedeur Sanders is a polarizing figure, largely due to his surname and all the attention Deion Sanders gets.

Shedeur has got a lot of positives, most notably his impressive technique and great throwing motion. He is the most accurate quarterback in this year’s class and possess great ball security and good decision making.

He does, however, have some big red flags that cannot be missed. Sanders struggles to feel pressure and has a general lack of pocket presence. He drops back too far and does not throw the ball away quick enough when there is not a play available.

Sanders should not be at the top of the draft board but given that there are needy quarterback teams there he will go high. The Browns at two would make sense. He feels like a pure pocket passer who could be a starter in the NFL, and so Teddy Bridgewater makes sense as his comparison.

#3. Jaxson Dart – Ole Miss – 6’2″, 223lbs

Jaxson Dart has had a meteoric rise during his time in college football and finished off last season as a potential star quarterback.

Dart is an exciting prospect who has a lot of the attributes any team would want on their team. He has a great arm and good mechanics. He is accurate, has rushing ability and is a tough player.

Dart does have a few flaws, and a big one is his special awareness. Bailing out of clean pockets too quickly is an issue and so is rushing into defenders. He has next to no experience under centre due to how Ole Miss plays, and his production dropped against elite defences.

It is difficult to work out exactly where Dart will be drafted as he is being mocked in the first round by industry experts. A first-round pick does feel pricey but given he is a quarterback it is not shocking.

The Saints are a team that need a quarterback for the future, as do the Steelers. A good comparison for Dart is Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix. A good athlete who can rush and pass the ball who could really excel in the right environment.

#4. Jalen Milroe – Alabama – 6’2″, 217lbs

Jalen Milroe was one of the nations premier dual threat quarterbacks who developed behind Bryce Young at Alabama.

Milroe is a physically gifted rusher who has 4.3-4.4 speed. Not only does he have serious rushing upside, but he also has a strong arm and is a tough competitor.

Milroe is raw to say the least. He has accuracy issues and his processing needs to improve, if his first read is not available then he runs to quickly. He also has significant ball security issues having had 13 fumbles in 2023 and nine in 2024 for Alabama.

Despite all this he still has some amazing traits that NFL teams will love and going in the second round is likely. When you look at his game, he is a mixture of Anthony Richardson and Malik Willis.

As for which team he goes to, it is really about who can give him time to develop behind a veteran. Seattle would make a good landing spot for Milroe. Although they have just signed Sam Darnold its essentially a one-year deal.

#5. Kyle McCord – Syracuse – 6’3″, 220lbs

Kyle McCord has had a bumpy road to the NFL. The former high school athlete held records and championships for St. Josephs Prep. He then went to Ohio State where things did not go as planned.

He sat behind C.J. Stroud and when he finally got the starting gig, he only managed one season before transferring to Syracuse. At Syracuse though he showed how good he can really be.

Pristine mechanics and timing meant that he got the ball out in under 2.5 seconds on a regular basis. He is used to play action and became a much more aggressive player during his time at Syracuse. He has excellent pocket movement and a nice deep ball as well.

McCord does come with some issues, none more so than the fact he sits on his first read for too long. In 2024 he had 11 passes batted down showing that defences could read the play easily. He is not the greatest athlete and is a pure pocket passer.

Although he has limitations, McCord has the potential to be a good NFL quarterback. He is probably a third round pick but could possibly slip into round four.

A good comparison for McCord is Brock Purdy and a nice landing spot would be the Los Angeles Rams. Purdy has excelled under the Kyle Shanahan system and playing under Sean McVay would get similar results for McCord.
