The New York Jets in London: A brief history

New York are jetting back to the UK.

On Tuesday the NFL confirmed its international games for the 2025, with games in Brazil, Ireland, Germany, Spain and of course the UK.

One team who will be returning to London for the third time in five seasons is my beloved New York Jets, who will face the Denver Broncos on Sunday 12th October.

With that in mind I want to take a look back at how the Jets have fared on their previous visits to the capital.

New York Jets v Miami Dolphins – Wembley Stadium, 2015

The Jets first foray across the pond for the International Series was in 2015, when they faced division rivals Miami at Wembley Stadium.

Many Jets fans will remember this season for being the last time the Jets played meaningful football to end the season – a loss to Buffalo in the final regular season game saw them miss the play-offs despite a 10-6 record – sigh…!

But the win over the Dolphins in London was definitely one of the highlights of that crazy season. Led by powerhouse running back Chris Ivory, who rushed for 166 yards and touchdown, Gang Green quickly established a 10-0 lead and never looked back.

Ryan Fitzmagic, sorry Fitzpatrick, connected with star receiver Brandon Marshall for several key completions – he finished the game with seven catches for 128 yards.

While the suffocating defense recorded three sacks and forced two interceptions from Ryan Tannehill, including one to the legendary Darrelle Revis – nobody throws on Revis Island.

A glorious day overall, with a final score of 27-14 to New York.

New York Jets v Atlanta Falcons – Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, 2021

Is it a stretch to say the only people who remember this game are Falcons fans and Kyle Pitts? I say that because despite watching the game, I struggle to recall anything of note outside of Pitts looking like a stud with nine catches for 119 yards and a score.

Matt Ryan rolled back the years for Atlanta, torching the Jets for 342 yards and two scores.

The Jets two leading receivers on the day were Corey Davis and Keelan Cole. None of the defense recorded a sack and only two tackles for loss all game.

Somehow the game finished 27-20 to the Falcons, but in truth it was a comprehensive beatdown of the Jets, who were in full rebuild mode and slumped to 1-4 under first year coach Robert Saleh.

New York Jets v Minnesota Vikings – Tottenham Hotspur Stadium 2024

The only London game involving the Jets I was able to attend – and after the first half I really wish I’d saved my money.

This was the game that too me summed up the Jets disastrous 2024 campaign perfectly.

With four minutes to go in the second quarter, they found themselves in a 17-0 hole, with an offence that could not move the ball, a quarterback under heavy pressure and defense making mental errors to keep their opponents on the field.

Aaron Rodgers first quarter Pick Six was a jarring moment and was the first time I really questioned his ability during that campaign.

The second half was a much more spirited performance, Rodgers started to make some throws and Garrett Wilson caught a whopping 13 passes for 101 yards and touchdown.

Miraculously the Jets had the ball with a chance to win the game in the fourth quarter. But as was the way in 2024, when they really needed a play from their star quarterback he threw a back breaking turnover to end the game.

Final score 23-17, and to me this is where the 2024 season died.

So there you have it a quick rundown of the Jets in London, here is hoping Aaron Glenn can inspire the side to a big performance in October.
