The Philadelphia Eagles narrowly defeated the Kansas City Chiefs 20-17 in the Super Bowl LIX rematch, but it was far from a perfect performance.
Only one factor matters when it comes to the NFL – winning football games. This has become a common practice for the Eagles over recent campaigns.
However, star quarterback Jalen Hurts is now working with his fifth offensive co-ordinator in just six seasons in Philadelphia.
The lack of continuity hinders the effectiveness of the offensive unit at the beginning of every season.
Patullo is already under scrutiny
The promotion of the passing game co-ordinator, Kevin Patullo, to offensive co-ordinator seemed like a natural fit that would require little transition, meaning the Eagles’ offense could continue to thrive in 2025.
Despite winning both of their opening two match-ups – against the Dallas Cowboys and the Chiefs – the reigning Super Bowl champions have looked stale and lacked innovation when attempting to put points on the board.
After an electrifying first year with the Eagles, Saquon Barkley has struggled to showcase his explosive talents, even though he has racked up 148 yards throughout his two appearances.
In addition, the A.J. Brown rumour mill has commenced early this season after registering just one reception in the 24-20 triumph over the Cowboys. Something that should not surprise anyone who has the opportunity to spectate this run-heavy Philadelphia team regularly.
Unfortunately, one thing Patullo will not be afforded as the Eagles’ offensive co-ordinator is time or sympathy.
With the elite tools at his disposal, this fanbase expects to be competing at the summit of the NFC come the end of the season and will want to witness more dominant performances.
Of course, it should be stated that the NFL season has only just begun, with performances improving as this talented roster becomes more accustomed to Patullo’s playbook.
At this stage of the campaign, victories are all that will matter in the eyes of head coach Nick Sirianni. As long as his players are in the mix for the top seed in the NFC, there will be little chance of the 43-year-old hitting any panic buttons.
