Predicting the Detroit Lions 2025 season

Detroit to make it three consecutive NFC North titles?

With Week 1 of the 2025 season less than 50 days away, it is only right that we predict the Lions’ 17-game record.

Expect twists and turns throughout the season but most importantly, expect Detroit to make the playoffs.

Week 1 @ Green Bay Packers – Win

Detroit will kick off their campaign at Lambeau Field in a tough divisional clash against the Packers.

The Lions have won their previous two openers and will scrape a win thanks to their offensive talent overpowering Green Bay’s secondary.

Week 2 vs. Chicago Bears – Win

Back-to-back divisional clashes for Detroit, this time with Ford Field providing an added advantage.

The Bears have a lot of moving parts in their roster and this early in the season will be too soon for an upset.

Week 3 @ Baltimore Ravens – Loss

After a perfect 2-0 start, the Lions go on the road to potentially the NFL’s best roster.

Expect Lamar Jackson’s unpredictability to be the biggest threat on the night. A narrow defeat moves Detroit to a 2-1 record.

Week 4 vs. Cleveland Browns – Win

Despite losing their momentum, Detroit get a blowout win against a deflated Browns outfit and swiftly move to 3-1.

Week 5 @ Cincinnati Bengals – Win

The Lions continue their tour of the AFC North with a high-scoring tie in Cincinnati to be expected.

Despite the respected firepower on offence, Detroit dig deep and beat the Bengals in their own back yard – now 4-1.

Week 6 @ Kansas City Chiefs – Win

Arrowhead Stadium is a tough place to win on the road, but the last time these two teams met there, in 2023, Detroit won 21-20.

Kansas City’s first five games are tougher than expected and they slip up here at home to the Lions. 5-1.

Week 7 vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Win

The Lions will be keen to get revenge on Tampa Bay, who beat Detroit in Week 2 last season 20-16.

Detroit’s rich vein of form, plus a return to Ford Field, will combine to make it four wins on the spin. 6-1.

Week 8 – Bye

Week 9 vs. Minnesota Vikings – Win

The Lions come back from the bye week refreshed and with the number one seed in their sights.

Detroit’s secondary – as one of the best in the league – will keep Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison relatively quiet. 7-1.

Week 10 @ Washington Commanders – Loss

In similar fashion to Week 3 against the Ravens, Jayden Daniels’ duel-threat ability will get the better of Detroit. 7-2.

Week 11 @ Philadelphia Eagles – Loss

The two favourites for the NFC number one seed clash at Lincoln Financial Field.

But last year’s Super Bowl winners possess that little extra star power, earning Detroit successive losses. 7-3.

Week 12 vs. New York Giants – Loss

Shocks are to be expected in the NFL and one comes to Detroit in Week 12 to the Giants.

Their elite pass rush will get the better of the Lions less-experienced interior, proving too tough for Jared Goff to navigate. 7-4.

Week 13 vs. Green Bay Packers – Win

The Lions have won three of the last four at Ford Field against the Packers.

Desperate to get a win under their belt after three defeats in a row, Detroit roll the Packers over at home, earning a divisional double. 8-4.

Week 14 vs. Dallas Cowboys – Win

The Lions will look to replicate their blowout win over the Cowboys from last October – a 47-9 victory in Week 5.

This time, Detroit have added home advantage and will beat a struggling Dallas team who failed to improve significantly this offseason. 9-4.

Week 15 @ Los Angeles Rams – Win

Crunch time in the the NFC North propels the Lions to a one-score win over the Rams.

Detroit break their 19-year-long road curse against the franchise. 10-4.

Week 16 vs. Pittsburgh Steelers – Win

Often the Steelers defence shows up with their offence packing little punch.

The story is the same for Pittsburgh here in Week 16 and the Lions take the victory. 11-4

Week 17 @ Minnesota Vikings – Loss

With the NFC North wrapped up, the Lions take their foot off the gas and allow the Vikings to restored some pride. 11-5.

Week 18 @ Chicago Bears – Loss

Already eyeing up their Wild Card opponent, Dan Campbell rotates his starters out against Chicago.

Despite a sixth regular season loss at Solider Field, Detroit take the NFC North title for a third season in a row.

Regular season record – 11-6.

Dan Campbell will have his sights set on righting the wrongs of last year’s playoff disaster after securing another NFC North title.

With his starters recharged, Detroit will breeze through the Wild Card round, sending a gritty Seattle Seahawks side home.

In the Divisional Round, the Lions will earn sweet revenge with a narrow victory over playoff returners Washington.

However, Detroit will again hiccup on the cusp of a Super Bowl appearance, bowing out to the current holders, Philadelphia.
