Plotting the path for the Buffalo Bills to finish 2025 undefeated

The Buffalo Bills sit at 4-0, but could they go 17-0?

An NFL team has not gone undefeated in the regular season since the Tom Brady-led New England Patriots did it in 2007.

Of course they narrowly lost the Super Bowl – so Eli Manning helped stop them going completely undefeated all season.

Prior to that, the 1972 Miami Dolphins, coached by Hall of Famer Don Shula, went the full season undefeated.

The 14-0 regular season followed by a Super Bowl finish meant they technically completed a 17-0 season – still the only undisputed perfect season.

How apt would it be for another AFC East team to achieve this feat?

No, I am not referring to the New York Jets, of course. Perhaps Dan, our Jets writer could write about the Jets going 0-17? Sorry Dan.

The Bills are currently on course – yes, it is only Week 5 – but if I wait too long, we will definitely lose a game and then I do not have the fun of dreaming about football immortality for the Bills.

Running the Gauntlet

After four weeks, the Bills have been fortunate – they dodged a bullet in Week 1 with their comeback against Baltimore Ravens to win the game 41-40.

Then the last two weeks, against the Miami Dolphins and then the New Orleans Saints, they made quite hard work of two teams they were expected to comfortably beat.

The Bills have work to do and areas to improve if they want to beat everyone on the remaining schedule.

Next up is another home game against the old foe – the 2-2 New England Patriots.

That team is still finding its feet, with their wins coming against Miami and Carolina, not exactly dominant teams.

In Week 6, the Bills visit Atlanta to face the Falcons. Michael Penix Jr. has looked very average and we all know that Josh Allen has a phenomenal record playing in a domed stadium – a 9-3 record.

After that, it is the bye week – time for the Bills to rest and recuperate.

Reinforcements on tap

One of the biggest challenges for the Bills this season has been their defense and their propensity to underwhelm.

Well here is some good news for Bills Mafia – there is support coming.

Edge rusher Michael Hoecht and defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi are both due back from their respective PED suspensions.

Cornerback Maxwell Hairston is also working his way back from Injured Reserve (IR) following his preseason hamstring injury. The Bills secondary could really use the speed and coverage of its 2025 first round pick.

There is also the potential returns of Matt Milano to the linebacker corps and Ed Oliver along the defensive line.

Whilst many teams could be getting more injured as the season wanes – the Bills could be getting stronger and really find their groove.

Bye Bye Everybody

After the bye week in Week 7, the Bills visit Carolina. Sorry chaps, but that is not scary at all.

It is Week 9 onwards that will test the Bills.

  • Week 9 vs Kansas City Chiefs
  • Week 10 @ Miami Dolphins
  • Week 11 vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers
  • Week 12 @ Houston Texans

Admittedly, it is only the Buccaneers who could be considered an ‘in form’ team – with each of the others having their own vices.

However, a lot can change between now and then. The Chiefs will have Rashee Rice back and their offense could really start to cook.

Visiting the Texans vaunted defense in Houston is never an appealing option – no matter how bad their offensive struggles are.

There is, however, a world where the Bills go into each of those games as the favourites.

That continues – as they face the Pittsburgh Steelers and then the Joe Burrow-less Cincinnati Bengals.

Christmas can be cruel

If the Bills are sitting 13-0 following the Bengals game, the media will be losing its mind. I will be losing my mind.

Closing out the season is where the real banana skins are.

A trip to Boston to face the Patriots in Week 15 has the potential to be tough. Head coach Mike Vrabel will be well and truly embedding his style on the team and Drake Maye could really start blossoming. Plus: Snow game?

Then a trip to Cleveland to face the Browns. Who knows what position they will be in by then – but if their defense is still the best unit in football, then I will not feel good watching the Bills go against them. Again: Snow game?

Then finally – like some sort of End Game Boss – the Bills host the reigning champion Philadelphia Eagles. A fitting team to face late on if you have aspirations to go undefeated.

And if you get through that? At 16-0, you get to host the New York Jets. What a remarkable atmosphere it would be, if the last regular season game at Highmark Stadium was for the potential shot at going undefeated in the regular season.

You may say I am a dreamer?

But I am not the only one… right? Looking at Week 5 – I am sticking with my pre-season prediction.

Better days are ahead for the Patriots, but not this week.
