Patriots’ biggest needs in 2025 NFL Draft

The New England Patriots finished 4-13 in 2024.

With a little over two weeks to go until the 2025 NFL Draft, it is certainly time to have a look at the Patriots roster post-free agency and see what holes may be left to fill in the upcoming draft.

I am a big fan of what the new regime have done in free agency in 2025. I believe they have done a great job of raising the floor of this team.

They have turned what was arguably not an NFL roster last year to what seems to be a competitive team with some weak spots.

Immediate Need: Left Tackle and Wide Receiver

My biggest hope is that the Patriots spend their first two picks on a left tackle and a wide receiver.

I will be discussing what possible combinations these may take in another article next week. However, as discussed in my previous article, I do not believe that the Patriots have a viable left tackle option on the roster right now, and I hope to see that change by the end of the draft.

Additionally, free agent additions, Stefon Diggs and Mack Hollins, improve the Patriots’ wide receiver room, but I doubt that they provide Drake Maye with a genuine number one receiver.

In combination with Hunter Henry and DeMario Douglas, they create a more dynamic group than in 2024, but that is a low bar to clear.

It may also be hoped that both Ja’Lynn Polk and Javon Baker take a year two jump, but expectations are reserved, given their displays a season ago.

Can Be Addressed: Free Safety, Running Back, Cornerback, and Kicker

These positions are all spots in which I believe we could get by this season, but I still believe are areas the Patriots could improve on.

I am not convinced that the Patriots have a genuine free safety on the roster right now, so picking one up in the draft could be a nice addition to the team.

I also think that Rhamondre Stevenson will be back to his best in more of a man blocking scheme, but his fumbling still gives me cause for concern.

And I would not be against taking another cornerback to develop behind/be injury insurance for Carlton Davis and Christian Gonzalez.

The only kicker on the Pats’ roster, right now, is Parker Romo, who has only attempted 12 field goals in his NFL career, to date. I definitely think that the Pats need to add another option.
