The Seattle Seahawks have one glaring weakness that could hold them back in 2025.
They have brought in some veteran reinforcements in free agency to fill some roster holes.
The Seahawks also took a swing on a few high-upside, athletic talents in the draft.
However, there is a vital position group that has not been addressed. It could ultimately lower the ceiling for this exciting, young team.
Quarterback?
Sam Darnold and Jalen Milroe provide short- and long-term options at the quarterback position.
Finding a signal-caller was the primary task for the Seahawks front office after they traded Geno Smith.
By adding the veteran Darnold, they secured the immediate future of the franchise. The mercurial Milroe could become the franchise quarterback in time.
Seattle’s quarterback play in 2025 will likely be a shade worse without Smith, but their future is secure at the position. It is not an immediate weakness.
Offensive line?
The Seahawks’ offensive line was not good enough in 2024. Smith was constantly under duress, and the run game spent most of the year either absent or ineffective.
On paper, little has changed heading into 2025. First-round guard Grey Zabel may be the only new addition to start the season.
But another year of experience for their options on the interior and a fully fit Abe Lucas could see the group make strides this season.
They will not be elite, but there is a chance this offensive line could sit in the middle of the pack.
Anywhere else?
The Seahawks have a stacked secondary, deep running back room and several solid options all along the defensive line.
The wide receiver group, despite losing top-end talent in DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett this year, remains packed full of varied talent.
Even the tight end room has plenty of players who bring unique skillsets to the table.
None of these will prove to be vital weaknesses in Seattle’s roster construction.
The weakness
Yet the Seahawks are just one injury away from catastrophe.
The good Seattle teams of the past 15 years have been led by excellent linebacker play from Bobby Wagner and KJ Wright.
The re-signing of Ernest Jones was vital for the Seahawks. Alongside Tyrice Knight, they should provide a solid duo at the heart of the Seattle defence.
However, should Jones once again succumb to injury, Seattle will be in serious trouble. The keys to the defence would be handed over to Drake Thomas, Josh Ross or Patrick O’Connell.
All three are useful special teams contributors. But if they are forced into a starting role, it is a glaring weakness that opponents will be able to exploit.
If the Seahawks are to achieve anything this season, they must upgrade their depth at linebacker.
