The Bills ground the Jets, but that is nothing new.
The Buffalo Bills took care of business in Week 2 with a 30-10 win over their AFC East rivals, the New York Jets, in New Jersey.
Josh Allen is now 10-4 in his career against the Gang Green.
In Week 1, the offense led the way and got the job done but it was the defense in Week 2 that looked the real deal. That is something Bills Mafia will be very pleased to see, considering how Week 1 transpired.
After the drama of last week, this game felt largely uneventful in comparison. An attritional game evolved on Sunday almost incognito while the rest of the league played.
After four possessions each, the game was essentially done. Bills led 20-0 with only five minutes of the second quarter played.
The Jets had fumbled once and punted three times, having moved the ball a total of 13 yards on those drives.
Josh Allen ‘nose’ how to get it done
Part-way through the fist quarter, Josh Allen took a blow to the face. He wasted little time getting to his feet, removing his helmet and racing to the sideline to get seen by one of the Bills staff.
The shot of his bloodied nose gave a new definition to NFL RedZone. Scott Hanson finally had a reason to bring us footage from a game that felt altogether mundane against the backdrop of other games.
Allen went back in two snaps later, before again coming out when the result was beyond doubt. Mitch Trubisky stepped in to see out the game.
That is a good sign for Bills management. The question now will be how his nose responds to the swelling and just how much damage is done.
With the Bills hosting the Miami Dolphins on Thursday Night Football, he does not have much time to find out.
Defense responds following Week 1
I have no doubt that the defense received some strong feedback from Head Coach Sean McDermott this week in practice, following the embarrassing performance they turned in against the Baltimore Ravens.
Well, whatever was said – it worked. Four sacks and two forced fumbles, one of which was recovered. It was productive and game-breaking.
Quarterback Tyrod Taylor replaced a concussed Justin Fields midway through the game but collectively, the Jets passers completed 10 of 21 passes for 83 yards and one touchdown.
The Bills defense also held Breece Hall to 29 yards off 10 rush attempts. That is a startling difference to his stat line from last week.
Cook through thoroughly
After his long-protracted offseason, the Bills star running back James Cook finally agreed to the extension that both parties yearned for.
In Week 2, Cook started to show why he was worth it.
The Bills rode the fourth-year running back all game long, controlling the clock and the game along with it.
A stat line of 21 rush attempts for 132 yards and two touchdowns is one that often follows names like Derrick Henry or other workhorse backs. Maybe this is the statement the Bills have been meaning to make about their intentions this year. Run the rock.
No Oliver or Johnson, no problem
Having conceded over 200 yards of rushing against the Ravens, losing two key defenders is less than ideal. One was run stopping defensive tackle Ed Oliver and the other was nickel corner Taron Johnson.
Their replacements stepped up in a big way, with Zion Logue – playing just his third game – filling in admirably for Oliver.
DaQuon Jones and the rest of the defensive front also stood up tall.
Bosa rolls back the years
Joey Bosa, the five-time Pro Bowler and former Defensive Rookie of the Year, was the Bills’ marquee acquisition this offseason.
Could he fill the boots of Von Miller and deliver what his predecessor could not?
The first positive sign of that potential outcome came this week, with Bosa consistently getting pressure and making plays.
The fumble he forced in the first quarter set the Bills on their way and they never really looked back.
Week 2 prediction: WIN
Result: WIN
I am on the board at 1-1 for the season, while the Bills improve to 2-0.
It is a short week, with the Bills hosting the Miami Dolphins on Thursday Night Football.
Do not go anywhere as we will have plenty of Bills content for you this week.
