New Orleans Saints 26-14 New York Giants.
When the New York Giants lost to the Kansas City Chiefs, I was in pain from the defeat so decided to see how many Taylor Swift song titles I could fit in to my post-game breakdown.
Well, I feel even worse after the defeat to the Saints. As the G-Men had five consecutive drives ending in turnovers, it seems only fitting that this week’s game review contains song titles from 5ive.
This was voted for on X so you only have yourselves to blame for encouraging such stupidity.
When I Remember When
Just over a week ago, Jaxson Dart had his first start and the New York Giants won the game. We had zero turnovers and the defense looked elite.
Sunday’s game started with the Saints getting the ball and going ‘three and out’. The Giants then marched down the field and scored a touchdown. The defense makes yet another stop – holding the Saints to a field goal – and once again we march down the field and get another touchdown.
Up 14-3, I felt like the game was already over, we looked composed and calm and a bit of swagger to us. It felt like the only thing that could stop us was ourselves, and that is exactly what happened.
A mixture of drops, fumbles, giving up on plays and interceptions, combined with a defense that could not adjust to stop Spencer Rattler – who would go on to claim his first NFL win. We truly blew this game.
Two Sides To Every Story
I do not want to discredit or slate the Saints, they battled well and took advantage of the opportunities we kept on giving them.
They attacked our weaknesses and ultimately won the game through better coaching and winning the turnover battle.
I hate to say this in early October, but maybe this loss will help come April when the draft comes around and gives us a better pick.
I guess that is the silver lining to any defeat to a bad team, but I will not talk or think draft yet.
It’s The Things You Do
The offense actually moved the ball quite efficiently. There was not one ‘three and out’ all game long.
The offensive line played well and gave Dart time to go through his reads, while the run game was productive enough.
I know it is easy to say, but if we could catch the ball and not fumble it, I really think we win this game quite comfortably.
Dart showed great pocket presence, was not looking to run first and seems to have started to learn that If Ya Getting Down, then it is best to slide.
After two games, Jaxson Dart is looking like a Slam Dunk of a pick.
Don’t Wanna Let You Go
There seems to be a case of this team holding onto drafted players longer than they should.
Evan Neal has been inactive every single game this season, Jaylin Hyatt after three years still can not run a route or challenge for a ball.
Deonte Banks is making mistake after mistake and if he was not a former draft pick, I do not think he would see the field at all. To his credit though he has done well as a returner, but that is hardly something to brag about for a former first round pick.
This stubbornness to not move on from players because it could reflect badly on the regime is taking up roster spots that could be given to veterans who could help this team.
No, I do not think Odell Beckham Jr can help this team, but he can not make it any worse and I would be all for giving him a workout.
Keep on Movin’
With the Eagles to play on Thursday night, there is no time to feel sorry for ourselves, we need to look at what we did well and try and beat the Eagles.
The Joe Schoen and Brian Daboll regime are currently 4–14–1 against divisional opponents and that is terrible.
While I do not think a defeat Thursday signals Daboll getting fired, it will certainly on make his hot seat even hotter. Especially if it is a heavy defeat on Prime Time.
We need to come out the gates with a We Will Rock You attitude and beat a wounded Eagles team.
When The Lights Go Out on Thursday’s game we could be 2-4, with a first win over the Eagles in forever. We would then have a long rest to get healthy and maybe a veteran or two in and time to learn the system. It all starts Thursday night, Let’s Dance!
Well Wishes
Just as a side note, New York Giants CEO and Owner John Mara revealed last week that he is battling cancer.
While many fans would be right to question some of his decision-making as an owner, his passion for the team and the way the organisation is run are first class.
I am sure I speak for myself, Giants nation and all HuddleUK writers when I say get well Mr Mara, you have got this!
