Key matchups that should have Eagles fans excited

The NFL schedule has been released at last.

So now that we know who is playing when, which fixtures should Philadelphia Eagles fans be desperate to watch?

Here are three of the tastiest games in the 2025/26 calendar.

5 September 2025: Eagles vs Dallas Cowboys – Lincoln Financial Field

Could the opening game on the NFL slate be any more delicious for Philadelphia fans? An opportunity to hang the ‘Super Bowl LIX Champions’ banner in the face of Jerry Jones and his Cowboys.

Nevertheless, after all the celebrations and taunting end, one of football’s fiercest rivalries will be ignited and the race for the NFC East will commence.

Defensive mastermind Vic Fangio lost vital players such as CJ Gardner-Johnson and Josh Sweat in the offseason. Now, he has the responsibility of re-establishing the resilient defensive unit that conceded just 17.8 points per game in the Super Bowl run.

But, the Cowboys will be on a warpath, looking to right the wrongs of a disastrous 2024/25 campaign. They finished third in the NFC East, recording just seven wins.

However, the Super Bowl champions will be looking to make a devastating statement in their first fixture of the season.

14 September 2025: Eagles vs Kansas City Chiefs – Arrowhead Stadium

Super Bowl LIX: the rematch. Andy Reid’s men will be desperate to enact revenge on a side that embarrassed them as they looked to cement their name in the history books with a championship ‘three-peat’.

Philadelphia will feel like they have a psychological edge over Kansas City after that 40-22 victory. However, Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce do not need much motivation to put on a performance.

Jalen Hurts is another player who does not need motivating. The star has the opportunity to stake an early claim for MVP by defeating one of the NFL’s greatest-ever quarterbacks in a second matchup.

With the difficulty of the reigning Super Bowl champion’s schedule, this game could be viewed as a springboard for another assault on the championship.

20 December 2025: Eagles vs Washington Commanders – Northwest Stadium

Depending on how the season pans out, this NFC East rivalry could be the fixture that decides that fate of the division and the playoff seeding for both sides.

Washington have already signalled their intent to ride the momentum that their star rookie quarterback, Jayden Daniels, created last year. They have acquired wide receiver Deebo Samuels in a trade with the San Francisco 49ers.

But the Eagles will believe they are the superior franchise in this division after blowing out their sworn enemies in the NFC Championship game, 55-23.

The explosive running back, Saquon Barkley, was in sensational form against the Commanders in that tie, scoring three touchdowns and rushing for 118 yards.

Could this matchup alter proceedings in the NFC East this time around? Or will the Eagles dominate the division for a second year?
