What sort of team are you?
We are now six games into the 2025 NFL season.
It is about this time of year you start to find out what kind of team you have. Although there is a lot of football still to play.
Through six weeks, I feel fairly confident in saying that this Indianapolis Colts team looks like a pretty good one.
They are still the number one seed in the AFC currently. The offense has been absolutely electric and actually leads the NFL in points scored with 194.
On top of that they have some players playing at an unbelievably high standard. None more so than star running back Jonathan Taylor, who leads the league in rushing yards this year.
The narrative surrounding the Indianapolis Colts seems to be switching slightly towards who have you played to achieve your 5-1 record?
Tougher schedule
Well, that all changes now because up until the bye week, the schedule looks a lot tougher on paper.
Every team the Colts will play against between now and the bye after the international game in Germany has a winning record.
The only team that does not is the Tennessee Titans. And that is a divisional game, which are always quite tough.
So using an old Sunday League football term when your team would be about 8-0 up, and you would have some old timer shouting: ‘It’s still 0-0 lads!’. Go out and win again Indy. It is all the team can do.
The team need to keep looking forward and how they can keep that winning record up until the bye. Let us see review the record after this stretch of games.
Another sign of a good team is winning when not at your best. The Indianapolis Colts did that at the weekend just gone. They beat an improved Arizona team 31-27.
It was a close game and the Colts were nowhere near their best.
Bizarre injuries and plays
There were some bizarre plays and injuries within the game. We will start with a bizarre plays.
The Colts’ defense has been absolutely decimated by injuries, which we will come to in a minute.
But at one point, we had wide receiver Ashton Dulin rushing the passer. Now, Lou Anarumo is known for his exotic plays, but even that was a bit of a stretch.
Maybe it is a bit of a plea for looking for some help on the defense. Who knows?
The trade deadline does not close until November 4th, so we will see.
The bizarre injuries were a bit more worrying. Back-up quarterback Anthony Richardson got a really strange injury involving and elastic stretch band and a fractured eye socket. He has been placed on injured reserve.
More seriously from an immediate team perspective was Charvarius Ward going down with a concussion in the warm up before the game. He was involved in an unfortunate collision with teammate Drew Ogletree.
He will be a big miss if he is out. Especially for this weekend’s game.
Return to Los Angeles
The Colts return to Los Angeles for the second time in the space for a few weeks, this time to face the LA Chargers.
The last outing saw them losing narrowly to the Rams, when receiver AD Mitchell dropped the ball before running across the goal line.
Could it be a potential chance for amends for him? There are few players on the ‘did not practice’ report this week in that position, so it looks like he might be needed.
This will be a good test. The Chargers are a good side.
But how good is this Colts team? Well, we will find out more in the next few weeks with the schedule getting harder and it will start this weekend in LA.
Let’s go, Colts!
