Embarrassing offense sinks New York Jets in London

Another Sunday another loss for the hapless New York Jets.

Aaron Glenn is now 0-6 after his side stole defeat from the jaws of victory in London, losing to the Denver Broncos 13-11 last Sunday.

Ineptitude of the highest order on offense

I do not know what the process is for getting a refund after a sporting event, but anybody who had to endure the Jets offensive display in the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday should certainly investigate all avenues.

This was not a product that the NFL wants to international audiences to consume. The Jets were putrid with the ball.

Quarterback Justin Fields finished the game with -10 net passing yards. -10 in 2025 in the NFL. Where the game is basically set up for scoring and passing yards to reign supreme.

Fields was sacked nine times on Sunday, so you may think that the Jets offensive line was awful. But on all but two of those sacks, Fields held the ball for at least 3.3 seconds – the average time to throw in the NFL is around 2.65 seconds.

In short he had a lifetime to throw and just did not pull the trigger. Now some of the coverage by Denver was excellent, but there were guys wide open on the majority of these sacks.

Fields just could not or did not want to pull the trigger.

Two minute chaos

Despite the defence and special teams giving them short fields, the Jets were unable to generate any yardage with just two first downs in the entire first half..

Then we have the end of the first half sequence, the most diabolical two minutes of football I have ever seen.

The coaching staff admitted afterwards they did not want to give Denver the ball back. Coaching scared when you are 0-5 and the laughing stock of the NFL just piles on more humiliation.

Miraculously the Jets had shot to win the game. But Fields once again took a couple of killer sacks and that was the game.

I really think Tyrod Taylor going into that game at any stage hands the Jets a win, the fact Glenn said it was not a consideration is alarming.

If he could not see what was unfolding and that all his team needed was a couple of medium length completions to win this game, then he may not be here by the start of next season to put it frankly.

Defense shows up

The Jets defense has rightly received criticism for its play all year, but on Sunday you have to give them credit.

It is no coincidence that the uptick in performance came as Jermaine Johnson returned to the line-up. The edge rusher seems to be the emotional heartbeat of this unit, bringing much needed fire to what had been a lifeless defense.

Jamien Sherwood has had a torrid season after signing a big contract in the summer, but he looked like the player we saw for the majority of 2024.

Alongside Sherwood, rookie linebacker Kiko Mauigoa had his best game in a Jets jersey registering a PFF grade of 86.3.

In fact Mauigoa’s grade was only bettered by the outstanding Jarvis Brownlee Jr. who scored a 90.4 in thoroughly encouraging display.

The cornerback was flying around the field forcing a fumble on the opening Denver possession.

Yes that is correct, do not adjust your screens, the Jets forced a turnover. He looks exactly the sort of payer this team needs right now, all energy and desire.

In short the Jets defense did everything they could. But they were badly let down by the other side of the ball.

On a final note, Michael Clemons has gotten some pelters in 2025, nearly all deserved. But the last two games he has really played his tail off.

On Sunday he forced a safety on a hold and was making smarter decisions and impact tackles. So credit where its due, hopefully this is the start of a resurgence for the big defensive lineman.

Now its back to MetLife and the visit of the in-form Carolina Panthers. Can Gang Green get their first win? I would not be holding my breath put it that way.
