Another award!

Philadelphia Eagles’ young cornerback, Quinyon Mitchell, continues his rapid rise in the NFL with his latest achievement.

After winning Super Bowl LIX during his rookie year in Philadelphia, Mitchell has swiftly established himself as an elite NFL cornerback.

Not only does he boast essential attributes such as dynamism, speed and defensive acumen, the 24-year-old has a relentless attitude that makes him an essential tool in the Eagles’ defensive unit.

Defensive co-ordinator Vic Fangio has manufactured one of the most resilient defences in football after his appointment in 2024. They allow around 278 yards per game and Mitchell played a pivotal role in making this happen.

Michell has a point to prove

He finished second in the AP Defensive Rookie of the Year ballot, losing out to the LA Rams outside linebacker Jared Verse. Mitchell has since returned in his sophomore year with a vengeance and willingness to become the league’s most feared defender.

The Toledo graduate won the first weekly award of his career after his scintillating performance in a Week 4 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers by 31-25: the NFC Defensive Player of the Week.

Mitchell chalked up four tackles against Tampa Bay. Despite being targeted nine times during the match-up, the Eagles’ cornerback only allowed two receptions, giving up just six yards.

Even though this Philadelphia defense has had to endure the departures of veteran presences such as Darius Slay Jr. and C.J. Gardner-Johnson, the young star has impressively stepped up to prevent a self-imposed implosion. That could have ended the franchise’s hopes of a second consecutive championship before they had even begun.

If Quinyon Mitchell continues this rich vein of form and helps to carry his defensive allies to another Super Bowl, do not be surprised to see his name mentioned in talks for Defensive Player of the Year.
