Why the Rams’ matchup against the Ravens is a must-win game

A must-win game for a 3-2 team in Week 6?

Yes, you read that right.

But due to a Joshua Karty blocked field goal and a Kyren Williams goal-line fumble, the Rams find themselves at 3-2.

Get right before the bye

Sean McVay’s team now face two huge games before their Week 8 bye. The Los Angeles Rams travel to London to take on the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 7, but before that, there is the small matter of the Baltimore Ravens.

The Ravens are reeling right now with multiple injuries, including to superstar quarterback Lamar Jackson.

Baltimore also has many injuries on defense and has given up 37+ points in all five games this season. They are the first team in NFL history to do so.

But the Ravens are still the Ravens. Playmakers such as Derrick Henry, Zay Flowers and Mark Andrews will all take the field against a Rams secondary that ranks 25th in yards allowed to wide receivers.

A loss could be crushing for the Rams’ playoff hopes with the impressive 4-1 Jags next on the schedule.

A three-game losing streak going into the bye and a record of 3-4 would all but end the Rams’ hopes of the post-season.

But it would only be Week 9

While that is true, it would be a monumental uphill battle for the Rams.

Firstly, the Niners currently hold the head-to-head tie breaker against the Rams in the division. San Francisco could potentially enter Week 9 with a record of 7-1, four games ahead of the possible 3-4 record the Rams would have.

Then you look at the Niners’ remaining schedule and see that seven of their nine remaining games outside the division are against teams currently .500 or below.

The NFC West division leaders are also set to get George Kittle, Brock Purdy, Jauan Jennings and Ricky Pearsall back from injury. All four missed last week’s victory over the Rams.

In an otherwise stacked NFC that includes the Philadelphia Eagles, Green Bay Packers and Detroit Lions, it would be hard for the Rams to mount a serious challenge if they fail to beat the Ravens this week.
