Unbeaten start goes.
The Indianapolis Colts lost their unbeaten start to the season this Sunday, as they lost 27-20 to an excellent LA Rams side.
There is a sense of frustration from the Colts as they feel that they potentially could have left SoFi Stadium with a very different result.
Costly errors
One of the highlights of the Indianapolis Colts’ start to this season has been playing clean, good, error-free football. Unfortunately, that went out of the window on the very first drive.
Daniel Jones was intercepted for the first time this season. It was one of two interceptions he threw on the day. He was picked off by Rams safety Kam Curle twice: once on that opening drive and then again at the end of the game.
The mistakes did not just stop there, though. It was the most penalised the side had been all season, which makes it very difficult, as we know, to gain any sort of momentum.
Individual mistakes
On top of that, there were some other individual errors that we have to cover off as well.
Unfortunately, for A.D. Mitchell, it is not going to be a game that he looks back on with much joy. He went from having potentially one of the best plays you will ever see to one of the most infuriating.
It started with a brilliant catch, with two defenders around him. After that, he disappeared down the sideline, with a huge burst of speed. He then dropped the ball before going over the goal line. Unbelievable.
A bit of déjà vu for Colts fans who had seen this last year, when star running back Jonathan Taylor did something very similar.
Sadly for Mitchell, that was not the end of it.
Jonathan Taylor had a touchdown called back after a brilliant 53-yard run. The reason it was called back? A holding penalty on Mitchell. So frustrating.
Rams take advantage
To top it all off, the Rams’ game-winning pass from Matthew Stafford to Tutu Atwell came after the Colts lined up with only 10 defenders on the field. I have no idea how that was allowed to happen.
The frustration levels for Colts fans were at absolute maximum.
There is absolutely no shame in losing to the LA Rams. They are one of the best teams in the NFC and will surely be contending towards the business end of the season.
If you want to go and win at SoFi Stadium, you have to be near perfect. Unfortunately, as the above shows, the Colts were anything but on the day.
There is no such thing as a moral victory in the NFL. You either win or you lose. But that being said, it was quite an achievement to only lose by one score!
Also, the Rams were very good. They are a great team. Matthew Stafford and Puka Nacua, in particular, had outstanding days. You can read more about the game from the Rams perspective here.
Moving forward
The Colts have to take this one on the chin. They have got a big game this weekend, with the Las Vegas Raiders coming to town.
They will be looking to bounce back with a really big performance.
