An apology letter to Kyler Murray

Well Kyler, I can only apologise.

On behalf of Marvin Harrison Jr., for dropping a potential 74-yard touchdown catch.

For Emari Demarcado, for dropping a catch when he was wide open at the 12-yard line, with the end zone beckoning.

And on behalf of Zay Jones, for dropping the catch on 3rd-and-9 that ultimately cost us the game.

The Arizona quarterback did everything in his power on Sunday night.

He passed well, scrambled well and avoided throwing any interceptions.

How it went down

Arizona faced the San Francisco 49ers in Santa Clara, with both teams boasting a 2-0 record.

The Niners had no Purdy, no Kittle, no Aiyuk, no Jennings… and no Bosa for most of the game.

So how did we lose that one?

The game started with both teams struggling to score points.

Arizona dominated the ball for the first quarter but kicker Chad Ryland saw his field goal attempt sail wide.

The second quarter saw both teams kick points with San Francisco ending the half 6-3 up.

Arizona levelled with another field goal in the third but it was the fourth quarter when the game finally came to life.

Kyle Juscyck found the end zone for the home team before Trey McBride did likewise for the Cardinals.

Calais Campbell forced a safety to nudge Arizona ahead once more and with Mac Jones throwing an interception soon after, it was Arizona’s game to lose.

But lose it they did

A quick three and out that finished with Zay Jones dropping a crucial catch handed San Fran the ball back.

They quickly marched their way into field goal territory.

Eddy Pineiro kicked the winning points as time expired and that was that. A 16-15 loss.

What comes next?

The Cardinals had the chance to get to 3-0. Now, with a short week ahead of them, they could be 2-2 by Friday morning.

Offensive co-ordinator Drew Petzing is under intense scrutiny following Sunday’s defeat. The Thursday night game against Seattle could be make or break for him.

If they are to bounce back this week, then the Cardinals will have to do it without their first-choice running back, James Conner.

Conner was carted off on Sunday. Scans have revealed he needs surgery on his ankle and will miss the rest of the season.
